Dr. Carmen Calfa

Dr. Carmen Calfa, MD, MS, is a notable breast medical oncologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she serves as Associate Director of Community Outreach and Medical Co‑Director of the Survivorship Cancer Program at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She completed her MD in Romania before completing residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami. Board‑certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Dr. Calfa provides comprehensive cancer care across Miami and Plantation, offering both in-person and telehealth consultations in English, Spanish, and Romanian.

She is widely recognized for her leadership in precision medicine clinical trials and survivorship care initiatives. Dr. Calfa is the institutional principal investigator for multiple studies, including ASCO’s TAPUR registry and the Bria‑IMT immunotherapy trial for metastatic breast cancer. She also co-leads Sylvester’s Multidisciplinary Survivorship Clinic and the Genetic Predisposition Syndrome Initiative, with a focus on expanding access to innovative therapies and improving quality of life for survivors. Her contributions have been honored with awards such as the Zubrod Outstanding Clinical Researcher of the Year and the Miami Dolphins Everyday Hero Award in 2020.

In addition to her research and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Calfa is committed to mentorship, equity, and community health. She chairs ASCO’s TAPUR Steering Group, advocating for broader participation in precision oncology trials. She also co-directs initiatives addressing disparities in cancer care, mentors trainees and junior faculty, and represents Sylvester at national forums on survivorship, clinical trial enrollment, and emerging targeted therapies.
